The name derives from the dull, brownish-red lacquered sheath, in which the grain of the wood is still clearly visible. The sword blade in Shinogi-Zukuri style has a groove (Bo-Hi), is hand forged, blunt and made of 420 stainless steel. The handle wrapping is made of black cotton in a classic Hineri Maki style. In the red-brown, matt lacquered sheath in Cha-Sti Ishimi style the wood grain is still visible.
Due to the long tang, which is fixed in the handle with two bamboo pins (Mekugi), the sword is fully demountable. There is no plastic used, only high-quality, authentic materials are used. The blade clamp (Habaki) and washers (Seppa) are made of brass. The traditional handle wrapping is lined with authentic ray skin. All decorations (Tsuba, Fuchi, Menuki, Kashira) are made of metal. Supplied with protective fabric cover in a nice collectors box.
Each original John Lee sword features a seal and a certificate.
