John Lee Gunto Katana

Gunto is the name of the Japanese military sword. At the end of the 19th century the design was based on the French military saber. In order to inspire the spirit of the samurai honor codex (bushido) in the troops, it was decided in 1934 to use a katana like look. The swords of the common soldiers were factory-made and therefore of simple quality. In contrast, the swords of high-ranking officers were equipped with traditional blades inherited within their families. The colours of the sageo indicated the rank of the officer. In contrast to the katana, the gunto’s sageo was attached to the end of the handle.
The John Lee Gunto has the colors of a captain.
