John Lee Goemon Katana
Ishikawa Goemon (* 16th century; † August 10, 1594) is a Japanese folk hero. Like Robin Hood, he was said to have robbed the rich and given to the poor. Even today there are many myths and legends about him, such as the failed assassination attempt on Toyotomi Hideyoshi, after which he was convicted, and executed alive with other relatives boiling oil. Heroic he should have tried to save his son by keeping him out of the boiler.
The John Lee Goemon Katana takes up this issue. The tsuba shows among others Goemon when he was executed by a wood engraving by Toyokuni Ichiyoai. Among other motives also his name can be found on the Fuchi in Japanese font.
