Citadel Tanto Flores

This tanto received its name from the floral motive on the tsuba, which shows chrysanthemums. This flower is a symbol of the Japanese imperial family and is shown on the seal of the emperor.
The tanto is fully handmade. It has a blade of DNH7 carbon steel. It is hardened in the traditional fashion and afterwards hand polished to show the hamon-line. The edge has a hardness of 60 HRC, the back of the blade a hardness of 40 HRC.
The grip is covered with rye hide and black, Japanese silk. The menuki (grip decorations) are made of bronze and repeat the floral theme. The lacquered scabbard has fittings from buffalo horn.
